NDP's Green Effort
GREEN AND SUSTAINABLE NDP 21
Having a Green and Sustainable NDP 21 has been a key focus of NDP 21 Executive Committee (EXCO) and the theme for this year’s green initiative and effort is Co-Creation. It was envisaged that through co-creation, the green initiatives can embody a lasting commitment to NDP 21 ‘s green and sustainability efforts.
CO-CREATING THE NDP 21 GREEN AND SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY WITH SG GREEN GROUPS
Through our partnership with MP Louis Ng, who is also the Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Sustainability and Environment, NDP 21 has managed to bring onboard 13 SG green groups onboard our co-creation journey. The entire NDP 21 direction was co-created as early as Dec 2020 in our NDP 21 Green and Sustainable NDP Townhall Session (Physical meet up with SMM in place), attended by MP Louis Ng and representatives from the 13 SG green groups. This marks the start of the journey with a consultative and idea sourcing approach to develop green initiatives for NDP 21 and to also hear feedback on where are the areas in which NDP 21 can do better as compared to past year. This session set a strong foundation for NDP 21’s commitment to a more sustainable and environmentally friendlier NDP. Despite the on-going Covid-19 situation in Singapore, Our NDP 21 green journey was not derailed. With our commitment and determination, NDP 21 organised another 2 virtual meeting after the initial townhall meet up to provide progress update, as well as, to seek continuous feedback on the implemented green initiatives and to solicit for new ideas/areas to enhance the overall effort. Throughout this co-creation journey, it was evident that our Singapore Spirit is burning strong within our young Singaporeans, fuelled by passion and volunteerism that made the entire co-creation journey possible.
OUR CO-CREATION JOURNEY
NDP 21 Green and Sustainable NDP Townhall Session. The Townhall Session was designed to allow Chairman EXCO, NDP 21 to share the NDP 21’s direction and commitment to a green and sustainable NDP. In this session, NDP 21 also launched the Co-Creation Concept and articulated the broad outline and milestones for the months leading up to NDP 21.
Following the Townhall meeting, 2 more virtual sessions were conducted to update, refine and coordinate the co-created green initiatives and efforts.
NDP 21 GREEN INITIATIVES.

There were also 5 projects that was implemented focusing on publicity and education on green messages through outreach efforts via social media and physical interaction by our NDP 21 green ambassadors. The successful implementation of these projects are testimony of the commitment and dedication of everyone onboard our co-creation journey.
GREEN MESSAGES EMBEDDED IN NDP SHOW SEGMENT
This year’s NDP Show animation incorporated an animated character who went ahead with his beach cleaning effort despite the challenges and initial lukewarm response to his initiated beach clean-up efforts. It was a subtle call to action for a green and sustainable Singapore and a reminder to all Singaporeans that we have many young Singaporeans who believe in making a difference in every possible way to create a cleaner and greener Singapore. This was a rally call for all Singaporeans to play their part in our Nation’s green efforts in every possible way. A true reflection of a Malay Proverb cited by late Zubir Said - Di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung (You should hold up the sky of the land where you live.) which was mentioned in the NDP 21 Show.
